Upper Arm Lift Vienna

Firm upper arms in cases of slackened tissue.

Upper Arm Lift Vienna

Most women wish for slim and firm upper arms, as they are part of an attractive body. Many, however, suffer from slack, sagging excess skin, especially on the inner sides of the upper arms. This is usually caused by the natural ageing process, as a result of which the skin loses elasticity, or by significant weight loss.

For those affected, this is often a great burden, because despite a good body weight, the upper arms are not presentable. The women do not dare to wear sleeveless tops or dresses in summer. Even special physical training usually cannot change the situation.

A tightening operation with Dr. Özdemir can then provide relief and restore the youthful silhouette of the upper arms by removing excess skin and fat. If you too have thought about an upper arm lift, feel free to come to our practice for a consultation. Dr. Özdemir is a specialist in the field of upper arm lifts and has thereby already helped many women to a new quality of life.

Reasons for an upper arm lift in Vienna

Women over 50 in particular frequently suffer from slack upper arms with sagging skin. The natural ageing process causes the skin to lose elasticity and the tissue to lose firmness, and the typical “bingo wings” develop.

Significant weight loss can also lead to slackening of the tissue. The upper arms then often no longer match the overall appearance of the rest of the body. Frequently, the slack skin additionally becomes wrinkled. Whether ageing process or weight reduction – fitness exercises or targeted muscle building can then usually no longer achieve any improvement.

When the slack upper arms become a psychological burden, aesthetic plastic surgeons like Dr. Özdemir recommend an upper arm lift. Often, the sagging areas of skin even lead to health impairments such as irritated skin or heavy sweating. Depending on the patient's starting situation, excess skin and possibly also fatty tissue are removed during the procedure. The upper arms thereby regain a firm and more youthful appearance, with which women are happy to present themselves in sleeveless clothing!

What methods of an upper arm lift are there in Vienna?

The goal of an upper arm lift is to remove excess skin and fatty tissue and thereby achieve tightening. Depending on the extent of the excess skin and fat, different surgical techniques are used:

  • If there is only slight to moderate excess skin, the procedure can be limited to the armpit region. In this case, a crescent-shaped incision is made there and the skin on the inner side of the upper arms is tightened.
  • With a larger excess of tissue, the procedure has to be extended to the upper arm. For this, a straight incision is made along the inner side of the upper arm from the armpit to the elbow and the excess skin is removed. This method is very effective and can significantly reduce the circumference of the upper arms. Wrinkles are also thoroughly eliminated in this way. For the vast majority of patients, the long incision is necessary due to the extent of the excess skin.
  • In many cases, a combination of an upper arm lift and liposuction is sensible, in order to also remove local fat deposits. In the first surgical step, fat is first suctioned evenly. The skin is then removed through an incision on the back of the upper arm. The combination of both techniques delivers particularly beautiful results with significantly slimmer and firmer arms.

Scarring

An upper arm lift without scars is not possible, but Dr. Özdemir ensures a scar-sparing incision during the surgery. If the skin incision is limited to the armpit region, the scar is only visible with a shaved armpit when the arm is raised.

With the long upper arm lift incision, a longitudinal scar forms on the inner side of the upper arm from the armpit to just above the elbow. With the upper arm at rest, the scar is barely visible from both the front and the back.

Course of the upper arm lift in Vienna

If the surgery is limited to the armpit region, the procedure can be carried out under local anaesthesia. With the long incision, general anaesthesia is used, combined with at least one day of inpatient stay. Depending on the extent, the procedure takes 1–3 hours.

Before the operation, the exact incision is marked with the patient's arms raised. During the upper arm lift, the excess skin is then removed through an incision from the armpit to the elbow and the skin of the upper arm is tightened. If large parts of tissue have to be removed, thin drainage tubes are inserted into the wound so that the wound secretion can drain away and an infection is avoided. The drains are removed again 2–3 days after the surgery. Dr. Özdemir uses self-dissolving sutures for the procedure, which do not have to be removed.

How should I behave after an upper arm lift in Vienna?

After the procedure, patients receive a special compression garment that they should wear for at least 6 weeks. It supports wound healing, reduces bruising and swelling to a minimum and thus ensures an optimisation of the long-term result.

After the procedure, you should allow sufficient time to take it physically easy in order to ensure optimal wound healing. Definitely avoid physically strenuous activities, as the upper arms should not be exposed to strong strain, so that the wound edges can heal and the sutures do not tear. It is best to sleep only on your back for one to two weeks.

The duration of the absence from work depends on your occupation. You can resume simple, sedentary activities such as office work after about 1 week, physical work at the earliest after two weeks. You can practise light exercise such as cycling again after about 3–6 weeks; more strenuous exercise such as strength training definitely only after 6 weeks. If you smoke, you should definitely refrain from it for 10 days after the upper arm lift, because nicotine constricts the blood vessels and thereby jeopardises wound healing.

As a rule, wound healing is complete after 5–6 weeks. However, you will only see the final result of your upper arm lift after 3–6 months.

FAQ

FAQ · Upper Arm Lift Vienna

Before the surgery, a thorough examination is required, about which Dr. Özdemir will inform you during the consultation. If you regularly take medication, you must discuss this with him. In any case, blood-thinning medication such as aspirin must be stopped 14 days before the procedure. Smokers should stop smoking 2–4 weeks before the upper arm lift, or at least reduce it to a minimum, in order to avoid wound-healing disorders.
An upper arm lift is a low-risk procedure, but here too, as with any surgery, complications can occur. The most common are swelling and bruising as well as post-operative bleeding and infections. In addition, asymmetrical scars and scar keloids (proliferations) can form. A corrective procedure then sometimes becomes necessary.
According to Dr. Özdemir's patients, the pain after the lift is slight. If necessary, painkillers are offered to you that help you to manage your everyday life well.
The upper arm lift does not serve to reduce weight; its aim is to surgically remove excess skin and fat that do not go away through exercise or diet. If the excess skin has arisen due to significant weight loss, the lift should only be carried out once the patient has reached a stable weight.
The long-term results of upper arm lifts are generally very good, provided there are no weight fluctuations.
With liposuction alone, only the volume of the upper arms can be reduced; sufficient tightening is not achieved with it.
Very often, weak connective tissue is the cause of the slack areas of skin. This is genetically determined, but a healthy diet and exercise can delay the slackening of the skin areas.
An exact figure for the cost is only possible after a detailed consultation with Dr. Özdemir, as the prices depend on the extent of the treatment and therefore vary from case to case.
