Over the course of life, the first signs of ageing appear on the face. Mimic wrinkles on the forehead and eyes such as frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet develop. The wrinkles around the eye, called crow's feet, form, for example, when the muscles around the eye contract. Personal lifestyle (smoking, excessive sunbathing, alcohol, etc.) further promotes the formation of facial wrinkles.
But wrinkles make us look older and often give us a negative, sad facial expression. You do not have to put up with this. For many years, Botox has been a proven antidote. Disturbing wrinkles caused by frequent, usually unconscious muscle pull can be visibly smoothed by the small injection, and their formation prevented. The face appears more relaxed and youthful. The characteristic facial expression is not impaired by it.
What is Botox?
Botox, or botulinum toxin A, is a protein or medication obtained from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. After targeted injection, it reduces the activity of those muscles that cause disturbing wrinkles. Botox thus inhibits the release of the messenger substance acetylcholine. This blocks the transmission of stimuli from the nerve to the muscle. Botulinum toxin is usually used for mimic wrinkles in the upper third of the face. The agent is injected directly into the muscle. This prevents muscle tension – the skin above it smooths out and looks considerably fresher. Injecting Botox is a minimally invasive procedure and is therefore carried out without surgery.
Botox can be used, for example, for:

The consultation
Before a botulinum treatment, a consultation with Dr. Özdemir first takes place at his practice in Vienna. During this, a precise examination of the face is carried out. Dr. Özdemir addresses your individual wishes. Together you discuss which region should be treated and how strongly. He then advises you on the expected treatment result. He also clarifies contraindications, informs you about the risks and possible interactions. He is happy to answer all your questions.
Course of the treatment – Botox against wrinkles
The first Botox treatment can be carried out directly after the consultation. In most cases, no local anaesthesia or numbing ointment is necessary. The area to be treated is disinfected and the treatment points are marked. The solution containing botulinum toxin is then injected in a targeted manner with a very fine needle of a syringe into the muscle that causes the wrinkle. The injections are barely noticeable and leave at most a temporary burning sensation. The area is then cooled a little. Depending on the extent of the treatment, the procedure takes about 10 to 30 minutes.

After the Botox treatment
You do not need to plan for any downtime. Usually you can immediately resume your usual daily routine. Temporary slight redness can occur at the injection sites, which you can cover with make-up. In the first two to three hours after the treatment, the head should be kept in an upright position. Up to four hours after the treatment, you should avoid physical exertion (e.g. exercise) and alcohol consumption. Sun, sauna, solarium and intensive exercise should be avoided for 1 to 2 weeks. Until the full effect is reached after about ten days, no strong pressure (e.g. facial massage) should act on the treatment area.
How long does the effect of Botox last?
The smoothing effect sets in within the first week after the treatment. It lasts about 4–6 months. After that, the changes caused by Botox have receded again. After this time, the treatment can be repeated at any time. The effect then usually lasts longer, as the immobilised muscle often becomes somewhat weaker. Botox is considered the best prophylaxis for avoiding wrinkle formation caused by facial expressions.
Combination treatment with hyaluronic acid
In some cases, a combination treatment with a wrinkle injection using hyaluronic acid can lead to an optimal result. Botox can reduce wrinkle formation caused by muscle activity. Hyaluronic acid, on the other hand, can conceal age-related volume shifts in the face and smooth surfaces. Thus, with deeper wrinkles, hyaluronic acid can additionally serve as filling material for wrinkle smoothing. Botox in combination with hyaluronic acid injected into the middle area of the upper lip can make lips appear larger. Dr. Özdemir will be glad to advise you on this.
